Today we have made the decision to suspend all programs and meetings in the library until April 13 in order to make our building a safe and healthy space for our community. We have also pulled our toys, including puzzles, feltboards, and Kindles, from use in the Children’s Room for the time being. So you may be asking, how can you use your library right now?
Our building is currently still open. You are welcome to come in during our normal business hours to check out books, movies, CDs, video games, audiobooks, Playaways, and magazines to keep you and your family entertained. Many of our activity books (think origami, cooking, science experiments) are on display in the Children’s Room. You can also place holds on items at home from our website using your library card and pick them up on the upper level using our self-checkout (or one of our friendly circulation staff can help you check out).
We also invite you to take advantage of our digital resources using your library card. You can download ebooks or audiobooks using Cloud Library, Overdrive, the Libby app, and Hoopla. Overdrive and Libby have narrated picture books available that will read a story to you. Tumblebooks is another great resource you can access through our website for a collection of digital kids books. Click on this link to get started with our digital resources, and keep in mind that we are happy to help you get set up over the phone: https://bedfordnhlibrary.org/reading-0
Lastly, there are many free resources out there for quality kids entertainment. We love pbs.org and the Novel Effect app. Storyline Online has picture books narrated by actors and celebrities available for free at www.storylineonline.net Various children’s authors are beginning to pull together resources as more schools close. Author Kate Messner has put together a great line up of read alouds, lessons, and drawing instruction videos from some really excellent authors and illustrators that you can visit here:
Please keep an eye on our website as we continue to develop our plan to keep our staff and community as safe and healthy as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
