Teen Summer Happenings

The summer reading program for teens is well underway!

If you haven’t already signed up for the 6 Book Challenge, stop by the front desk to register for our Adult/Teen summer reading program. Keep track of the books you read this summer; if you read 3 by July 11th, bring in your journal and you will receive a raffle ticket for the midway prize raffle drawing. Complete 6 books and if you are one of the first 50 people to do so, you will receive a ‘Wake Up and Read’ thermos!

Don’t forget to stop by the teen section to pick up a take-and-make craft set! (quantities are limited) Beginning on July 14th, the available craft will be Sun Prints. Sun Prints are made on a special type of paper which is sensitive to UV rays. Take one piece of sun print paper and arrange an interesting object you wish to capture onto it while still indoors. Then transfer your paper with the arranged object(s) outdoors and leave it in direct sunlight for 2-5 minutes. Finally, rinse your paper under water for approximately 1-5 minutes to activate the chemical reaction and watch your print develop on the paper!

Also, sign-ups have begun for our Stop-Motion Animation Studio program. On Tuesday, July 22nd at 2pm the Bedford Library will host a stop-motion program for teens in the McAllaster Room. Stop-motion is a film technique done by taking photographs of a scene while changing each shot slightly. With the use of editing software, the photos are transformed into a mini film. Bring any small toys or objects you wish to star in your video (other objects as well as scene backdrops will be provided). Registration is required and space is limited—sign up online or with a librarian today! Bedford cardholders only, please.
