Voting Time!

Read any good picture books lately? Were any of them on the candidate list for the Ladybug Picture Book Award? November isn’t just for political polling…it’s for library voting, as well! Instituted in 2003 by New Hampshire’s Center for the Book, the Ladybug Picture Book Award is uniquely New Hampshire. Each year, kids from age 3 to grade 3 throughout the state are invited to vote for their favorite title, guided by a list of ten recently published books selected by a statewide committee of librarians who specialize in children’s literature.

This year’s nominees are:
Baby Bear Counts One – Ashley Wolff
Ben Rides On – Matt Davies
Count the Monkeys – Mac Barnett/Kevin Cornell
Cowpoke Clyde and Dirty Dawg – Lori Mortenson/Michael Allen Austin
Frazzle Family Finds a Way – Ann Bonwill/Stephen Gammell
How to Train a Train – Jason Carter Eaton/John Rocco
If I built a House – Chris Van Dusen
Maya Was Grumpy – Courtney Pippin-Mathur
Outfoxed – Mike Twohy
Very Inappropriate Word – Jim Tobin/Dave Coverly

These books have been made visible on a special display in the Children’s Library since last March. If you haven’t read them yet, no worries…there’s still time! The deadline isn’t until December 8th. Why not come in and check some out today? Then cast your ballot and let your choice be counted!
