What’s Going on at the Library?

No doubt you have noticed all of the activity going on at the library. The new geothermal heating system installation for the library is underway. So, you might ask, what does this mean? I am not an engineer but a geothermal exchange system uses the heat from the earth to heat and cool the building and save us money in the long run. A series of wells or borings have been drilled in the land parallel to the library’s lower parking lot to form a closed loop system. The heat from the earth will be transferred through this series of pipes to the library heat pumps. If the temperature is 55 – 60 degrees coming into the building we only need to raise the temperature a few more degrees through the heat exchanger inside the building to reach a comfortable level. The whole process reverses in the summer to also provide cooling.

The library geothermal installation is moving right along. Most of the exterior work has been completed and the interior work has begun. All of the ductwork has been cleaned in preparation and the heat pumps on the lower level have begun to be replaced. Plastic drapes have been set up in sections on the lower level to isolate areas where work is being done and still allow the library to be open to the public.

Starting on June 1, the upper level will be closed to the public for about a month while the heating units in the attic will be replaced. The library will be open on the lower level with all services available- a mini library. Circulation and reference will be set up in the gallery. We will have Holds Pick Up, and a selection of popular and new materials available for browsing and check out (movies, audiobooks, new books, etc…).  Items that you need from the upper level can be retrieved by staff members who may be wearing hard hats!

Entrance to the library will be on the lower level only.

The Children’s Room will remain open and ready for all young readers to get started with this year’s Summer Reading Program, “On Your Mark, Get Set…Read!”. The Adult/Teen Summer Reading Programs will be starting the week of June 13 so please stop in and sign up.
