A carefully selected book is a very special gift, but it can be tricky to choose just the right one. Fortunately, there are many places to find help. For a sure bet, take a look at this list of the books that have appeared on the most “best books” lists so far this year. Check out the Indie Next list of books recommended by booksellers all over the country. Librarians have their own list: the LibraryReads list. Their best books list should be arriving any day now. The Goodreads Choice Award winners will be announced on December 6. The New York Times’ 100 Notable Books of 2016 is an extensive list with something for everyone.

The staff at publisher Penguin Books have opened their Penguin Hotline again this year. If you tell them a little about the person you are shopping for, they will prepare a list of recommended Penguin books.
