Online Fun for Food Lovers

Staying home more also means that we’re all cooking at home more.  Whether you’re learning to get creative when ingredients are sold out or discovering a love of baking and cooking with your extra time, here are a few online opportunities to enhance your cooking game and explore your love of food.

Great Courses Library Collection

You may know that the Great Courses Library Collection offers a wide variety of fascinating classes taught by engaging professors, but did you know that that includes cooking courses from The Culinary Institute of America?  In addition to these expert-led classes, you’ll also find lectures on food history, diet and nutrition.  Sign up with your Bedford Public Library card, then checkout a 7-day pass and watch as many lectures as you’d like.

CreativeBug

CreativeBug is a wide ranging database for crafters, featuring thousands of how-to videos, including a variety of projects for bakers and chefs.  Browse the “Food + Home” section of the Classes tab to find instructional videos on baking, cake decorating, canning and preserving, candy making, and fun presentation ideas.

Epicurious

Epicurious’s website (www.epicurious.com) is fun and free to use.  Browse articles and recipe collections on the front page or search by ingredient to find a new way to use the food you already have on hand.  Recipes are rated by the website’s users (the highest-rated ones score 4 forks) so you can get an idea of how successful a recipe has been and what you might be in for.

Hoopla

In addition to a great collection of electronic cookbooks, Hoopla also offers Bedford cardholders the chance to screen 80 seasons of cooking and food TV shows, including The Great British Baking Show and Cook’s Country.

eBooks of All Kinds

Aside from Hoopla, there are many eBooks and eAudiobooks available to download from CloudLibrary and Overdrive or Libby.  Click the links below to view browsable lists of these titles and get reading!
