Summer Reading Registration

Hey, Kids! The time has come to sign up for our fabulous Summer Reading Program! This year we're under construction to "BUILD A BETTER WORLD". Come on into the library to get on a team and join the Reading Club...there will be incentive prizes, gift coupons, crafts, and special performances on the agenda for the whole summer! All Bedford youngsters aged 3-12 are welcome to register anytime from now until the end of the program in August. Please do bring your library card with you to make it easier all around.

Junior Librarians

If you will be entering 5th grade or above next fall, you might like to consider becoming a Junior Librarian...or perhaps you've been waiting for your chance to do this for years! Every summer, the library trains a group of young Bedford students to become involved in the workings of the Summer Reading Program.
Question: What do Junior Librarians do? Answer: Mainly two things...
#1. Check children's reading club charts and give them incentive prizes. #2. Assist kids in making the craft project of the week.

Summer Reading Kick-Off

There's no one more popular than Toe Jam Puppet Band to open up our Summer Reading Program this year! Tom and Vinny will be bringing their silly songs and ridiculous antics to Bedford's Town Hall on Friday, June 23 at 1:30pm. Fun for all ages, including the young and the young at heart! Space is somewhat limited, so kids will need to be signed up on-line if they would like to come...registration begins on June 5th: www.bedfordnhlibrary.org.

Book Buzz

Whether you've attended a Book Buzz meeting before or not, you are welcome to join us for the final meeting of the season on Monday, May 22 from 5:00-6:00pm, for kids aged 9-12.

Vision Screening

Good news...Elda Cordero-Goodman, a retired nurse practitioner, under the auspices of the Lions Club, will be on hand at the library at various times over the next few months to do quick, non-invasive vision screenings on young children, beginning at 6 months of age. This is entirely voluntary, and free to the public. These preliminary spot checks can alert parents to the need for consulting an eye doctor for conditions such as near and far-sightedness, lazy eye, strabismus and such.

Reading with Lilly

Great news! Sweet Lilly, our library reading dog, has decided she can squeeze us in for 2 visits a month, beginning in May!
Lilly sits by patiently listening while young readers practice their skills on her...this has proved to be of tremendous benefit in helping kids gain confidence to read aloud in class. Lilly has also been known to transform some dog-shy young patrons into dog lovers!

GREAT STONE FACE - VOTE!

Calling all kids in grades 4-6...it's that time again! You've had a year to read books from the Great Stone Face list, and now it's time to make your choices known! You have until April 28th to do some last-minute reading and come to the library and cast your vote. Remember: You don't have to read them all...just pick your favorite from the ones you have read. The winner will be announced in May. The Great Stone Face Award is sponsored by the New Hampshire Center for the Book.

WIGGLEBOTS!

Everyone loves to wiggle and giggle! Come build a robot that can scribble, race, and dance! The BHS Robotics team will be here during April Vacation week to build WIGGLEBOTS with your kids!
