She's back!!  Brary, the library's very own Elf on the Shelf, is moving in for another holiday season, planning to arrive on December 1st.  But where is she? She likes to get around a lot, so you will need sharp eyes to spot where she's hiding on any given day. We only know she will stay in the Children's Library. A small reward is being offered to any kid who reports a sighting to the librarian. Rumor has it that Brary keeps a list and reports back to Santa on how well kids behave in the library. But it's only a rumor...nothing to be concerned about!

Is Lilly coming in December? Yes, she is! She wouldn't want to miss a chance to meet with the kids who want to read with her. Lilly will be visiting us on Tuesday and Thursday, December 5th and 7th,  from 4:00-5:30pm. Each child gets 15 minutes of private time with Lilly to practice his or her reading skills. They may involve family members if they wish. This is a great confidence booster for reading aloud in class!

There's nothing like a cozy mystery to  chase away the winter chill...Why not buzz on down to the library on Monday, December 4th for some fun bookchat about Tracy Barrett's whodunnit, THE SHERLOCK FILES: 100-Year-Old Secret? Xena Holmes and her younger brother Xander are surprised when a mysterious stranger passes them a note telling them that they are descendants of the famous detective who shares their last name... and indeed have inherited his diary of unsolved cases!

What’s cooking for Thanksgiving at your house? How about bringing the kids down to the library on Wednesday, November 22 to let off some STEAM? Registration is open on our website (www.bedfordnhlibrary.org) for you to sign up for our two sessions:

Age 5-7… 10:00 – 11:30am: Candy Corn Challenge and Butter by Hand

News flash…Magformers are back! Every month, there will be a designated time when we will put out our large collection of these fascinating building toys for free play. No need to register…just come on along. To round out 2017, Magformers will be available on Tuesday, November 21 from 10:00am – 2:00pm, and Wednesday, December 13^th from 12:00 – 4:00pm. A full schedule is posted in the Children’s Library.

The holidays are upon us...a tough time for some of our military personnel stationed a long way from home and loved ones. A card from a child can bring cheer to  a seaman, soldier or airman/woman serving overseas to preserve the freedoms we cherish in America. Materials are available in the Children's Library....won't you stop by and make a card today? They will be sent off in the middle of November, so time is of the essence!

Lilly's back for a new year of listening to kids read! She is so excited! This year, due to popular demand, she will visit with us twice a month...usually on the first week of the month. Please note...November is an exception...she will come on Thursday, November 2 and Tuesday, November 14th..In any case, her schedule will be Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00-5:30pm.

What can STEM possibly have to do with Thanksgiving? Join us on Wednesday, November 22, and you'll see! While Mom’s busy baking pies, you can meet the challenge of creating things out of candy corn and cranberries, and make your own butter for the feast. There will be a morning class for ages 5-7, from 10:00 - 11:30am. Kids aged 8-12 will meet in the afternoon, from 1:00 - 2:30pm.  On-line registration is open on our website.

Readers, unite! The first meeting of the Middle Grade Book Club (Grades 4-6) will be a Meet & Greet on Monday, October 2, from 5:00-6:00pm. Along with chat and refreshments, you will have an opportunity to pick up your copy of the first amazing title up for discussion... Wonder, by R. J. Palacio.
