Thanks to a collaboration between the NH Department of Education and Modern States, a nonprofit devoted to making a college degree more affordable and accessible, college students may take self-paced online courses that prepare them for the CLEP exam, then take the exam for free. Earth Day is a perfect time to think of new ways to use old materials around the house, and with social distancing keeping everyone at home, many people now have the time to learn some new crafts or start a science project. If you need Earth-friendly inspiration for your next project, the Bedford Library has you covered with some of our online resources.
Teens, did you know there is a New Hampshire book award just for Young Adult titles? The Flume Award, created in 2005, is presented every year to a YA book chosen by high school students in New Hampshire. Teens across the state nominate their favorite, recently released titles with their public and school libraries. Students then select their favorite from the final list of ten young adult books. Nominated books include fiction, graphic novels, nonfiction, and audiobooks published in the last two years.
The Bedford Public Library is here to virutally support the academic and recreational needs of Bedford teens during this period of social distancing. The library's selection of databases provide valuable content for the papers and projects students are assigned during this time of remote learning. Just in time for summer, our new Teen Space furniture has arrived! Next to the YA books on the main level, you'll now find our new furniture setup. There are comfy chairs to curl up and read in, as well as chairs with built-in tablet tables to prop up your devices as you study. We also have an awesome new charging station, so if your battery is running low you can plug in and charge it up! Every piece of furniture is on wheels, so feel free to push things around and make the space your own.

Just in time for April vacation, the library has a new addition to our collection: board games! The display of games that are available to check out is located in the Young Adult section on the main floor.
We've had over 140 adults register for our 7 Book Summer and over 65 teens register for the Teen 8 Book Challenge! Many people have earned their halfway prize (either a certificate for our book sale or for a 3D printed prize on our new 3D printer) by reading three books for adults or four books for teens. Some have even completed the challenge already!
There's still time to sign up! Just stop by the circulation desk at the library. While you're here, check our whiteboard to see what people are reading and to add your own current read!
