The Latest Buzz...

Book Buzzers will find a lot to like in April's club selection: Esperanza Rising, by Pam Munoz Ryan. Even though published over 8 years ago, when it won many awards, the topic is in the current headlines almost daily. When Esperanza's wealthy father is killed in Mexico, she and her mother must immigrate to the U.S. to find work in the agricultural labor camps. She is in no way prepared for the poor living conditions and demanding work now expected of her. You will cheer her on as she grows and overcomes through hardship and ethnic tensions, evil uncles' schemes and the giving up of her childhood dreams. Copies of the book are available now for members to pick up in the Children's Library. Book discussion will take place on Monday, April 2, from 5:00-6:00pm. All middle-graders are welcome.to come and chat, or just listen. There will be some fun related activities, and, of course, munchies! Club members will be able to pick up a copy of the last title of the year: Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko, at the meeting.
