Pumpkin Contest

Whoooo! Halloween is right around the corner, and it's time to get creative! Our annual Literary Pumpkin Contest is coming right up! Think about a favorite children's character from a BOO-k or movie...then translate that into a design for your pumpkin(s). Adult assistance is not only allowed, but very much encouraged...this is a family affair! When you're finished, bring your entries to the Children's Library to be put on display.

Book Buzz

Fall is here, and readers are beginning to ask about our tween book club, for ages 9-12. Good news: The first meeting will be held on Monday, November 21, from 5:00 - 6:00pm. (NOTE CHANGE OF DATE) There will be a meet and greet, where members old and new can get acquainted. Everyone is encouraged to bring along a favorite book for show & tell. THE WILLOUGHBYS, by Lois Lowry, is up for discussion in November...this one is sure to tickle your funny bone! You need not have read the book to attend. Copies of BUDDY, by M.H.

Race to the Finish!

The team competition for most books read this summer couldn't have been much closer ! In the end, only 4 titles separated the Tortoises and the Hares! In the final lap, the Tortoises squeaked out a victory, logging 7734 books, with the Hares close behind at 7730. The pre-reading Frogs made an excellent showing, with 6227. Doing the math, you will see that the 976 Bedford youngsters enrolled in the Summer Reading Program read and reported on a grand total of 21,691 books!

Fall Happenings

School's back in session, and autumn is upon us! We're looking forward to starting up our fall programming...
Storytime sessions will begin the week of October 3rd. Registration is required only for infants and toddlers...this will open up on-line September 19th.
It is well to sign up early, as space is limited. Adult participation is mandatory in these programs for our littlest patrons...it is encouraged, but optional, for ages three and up.
Responsible adults must remain in the Children's Library while storytime is in session, so as to be available in case of need.

Thanks to Our Sponsors

It’s been an awesome summer at the Bedford Library, with almost 1000 youngsters participating in the Summer Reading Program. We couldn’t have done it without the following area businesses, who have contributed greatly to our success, donating weekly reading incentive prizes and door prizes, as well as sponsoring special events…

Turn in Charts for Rewards

It’s not over till it’s over, as Yogi Berra used to say… We have come to the end of another successful Summer Reading Program, but don’t stop reading yet! You can still add points to your team’s score! You have until the end of August to turn in a reading chart and collect a final prize and gift coupon. Not only that, but you’ll get to choose a free book! Everyone who turns in a reading log here at the library will also receive a summer reading certificate. These will be handed out at school in the fall, with logs attached.

You Make the Cake!

Calling all bakers (okay, and shoppers)... The Cake Walk has been a prominent feature of our Fun Faire every year. The children march around the circle until the music stops... Whoever is standing on the lucky footprint gets to choose a whole cake or special batch of goodies to take home to share with his/her family. The Cake Walk is an old tradition, dating back to the 1800's, sometimes incorporating a dance form, as well. There is only one thing needed for a successful Cake Walk...cakes!
