Great Stone Face Voting

The votes are in...soon we'll know who won this year's Great Stone Face Award! NH youngsters in Grades 4-6  cast have their ballots for their favorite title on the list. These books have been on display for almost a year now, and will soon be replaced by the books on the new selection list for 2016-17. A committee of children's librarians from around the state preview the newest literature for kids, and they work diligently to create a list reflecting writing quality, kid appeal, gender and genre interests, and age range.

Paws to Read

Good news...Maddy's coming back! Everyone's favorite golden retriever can't wait to come back to the library, now that she's recovered from some surgery on her leg. Maddy loves to lie close-by and listen to kids read to her. This will be her third year of helping kids gain confidence with their reading skills, especially reading out loud in class. She will be visiting on the third Thursday of every month from 4:00-5:30pm. Each child gets 15-minutes' private time to spend reading to Maddy.

Ladybug Award

The deadline for Ladybug voting is upon us! Students from age 3 to grade 3 are encouraged to come by and cast their ballots for their favorite picture book from the titles that have been on display since last spring. If you want your vote to count, you’ll need to do it soon...the deadline is December 10th!

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Something new for kids from birth to 5 years of age... Our library will be joining with dozens of libraries around the state to begin a new initiative. Experts agree that the most important thing you can do to prepare your children to read is to read to them every day. Research proves that kids need to hear 1000 books before they learn to read independently...this will increase their vocabulary and their listening and narrative skills. 1000 books? How can it be done?
