The tally is complete, and the winner is…the “Spiderman” team, logging in with 7409 books! The “Batman” team came in a close second, reading 7047 books. “Dewey the Superdog”, representing our youngest readers, made a good showing with 5178 books, for a grand total of 19,634 books read & logged by Bedford kids…congratulations!

Look What We've Got!

Something new and exciting has been added to the Children's Library collection! Playaway Launchpads are handheld tablets preloaded with fun, educational games for kids to play. They cover many topics and address three different age levels: 3-5, 7-9 & 10+. The good news is, you can check them out and play at home! Our initial collection is small, so for the time being, we are limiting check-outs to one per child, Bedford patrons only. The borrowing period is 2 whole weeks!

Touch-a-Truck

Who doesn’t watch in amazement when a screaming fire truck streaks by, or wonder what it would be like to drive a police car, with lights flashing, on the way to a crime scene? Or, how about those giant dump trucks and loaders at the construction site! You are invited to join us for an up-close inspection of some of the awesome vehicles we see around us every day. You can even climb on some of them! Then you can be refreshed with some lemonade and cookies! We don’t know for sure, but we could possibly have a surprise visitor or two!

Book Club

Some heroes are found in books! Midgrade Book Club members (and those who are curious), listen up! Instead of the normal year-round schedule, we are offering one general summer session on Monday, July 20 at 4:00pm. Come prepared to share what you’ve been reading (yay or yuck) and what you would like the club to read in the future. Miss Kim will have some ideas, as well. She will have some activities prepared, and, of course, some snacks! Come on over & check it out!  On-line registration.

Firefighter Demo

On Thursday, July 16th at 10:00am, members of our own heroic Bedford Fire Department will be here to give an interesting and informative demonstration. Afterwards, you will be able to go out to the tanker truck and try squirting the hose! We appreciate our firefighters and what they do to keep us safe from harm.

Critters 'n Creatures

Would you like to meet some amazing creatures with superpowers? Every time Mona Headen brings us her fun and informative wild animal show, we have to ask her to repeat it...so, there will be 2 presentations, back-to-back, on Tuesday, July 14. The morning show is filling quite rapidly, but there is still plenty of room in the afternoon. There will be a petting session at the end of each presentation, as time allows.

Postponed...

Change of plans...On Wednesday, July 8, we expected to have some members of the US Navy pay a visit to the library...unfortunately, they have had a change in command and cannot make it at this time. We are trying to establish a new time for their visit....we'll keep you informed.

Superhero Day

Wednesday, July 1st has been declared SUPERHERO DAY at the library! Everyone is invited to come dressed as their favorite superhero, real-life hero or comic book character...kids, adults, even library staff! Everyone in costume will receive a raffle ticket for a prize to be drawn at the end of the day. Be sure to bring your camera/iPhone so you can take SUPERHERO SELFIES with our standees!
