GSF Voting Month

It's April, and time to vote for your favorite Great Stone Face book! All youngsters in Grades 4-6 are invited and encouraged to cast their ballots for their favorite title on the list. These books have been on display for almost a year now, but there is still a little time remaining to catch up on your reading…no need to read them all! Polls will be open from  April 1st to  April 28th. Let your voice be heard…every vote counts!

Paws to Read

Good news...Maddy's coming back! Everyone's favorite golden retriever can't wait to come back to the library, now that she's recovered from some surgery on her leg. Maddy loves to lie close-by and listen to kids read to her. This will be her third year of helping kids gain confidence with their reading skills, especially reading out loud in class. She will be visiting on the third Thursday of every month from 4:00-5:30pm. Each child gets 15-minutes' private time to spend reading to Maddy.

Ladybug Award

The deadline for Ladybug voting is upon us! Students from age 3 to grade 3 are encouraged to come by and cast their ballots for their favorite picture book from the titles that have been on display since last spring. If you want your vote to count, you’ll need to do it soon...the deadline is December 10th!

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Something new for kids from birth to 5 years of age... Our library will be joining with dozens of libraries around the state to begin a new initiative. Experts agree that the most important thing you can do to prepare your children to read is to read to them every day. Research proves that kids need to hear 1000 books before they learn to read independently...this will increase their vocabulary and their listening and narrative skills. 1000 books? How can it be done?

Look What We've Got!

Something new and exciting has been added to the Children's Library collection! Playaway Launchpads are handheld tablets preloaded with fun, educational games for kids to play. They cover many topics and address three different age levels: 3-5, 7-9 & 10+. The good news is, you can check them out and play at home! Our initial collection is small, so for the time being, we are limiting check-outs to one per child, Bedford patrons only. The borrowing period is 2 whole weeks!

Touch-a-Truck

Who doesn’t watch in amazement when a screaming fire truck streaks by, or wonder what it would be like to drive a police car, with lights flashing, on the way to a crime scene? Or, how about those giant dump trucks and loaders at the construction site! You are invited to join us for an up-close inspection of some of the awesome vehicles we see around us every day. You can even climb on some of them! Then you can be refreshed with some lemonade and cookies! We don’t know for sure, but we could possibly have a surprise visitor or two!
